Almost all of the walls in Saigon and Hanoi look like this. I wonder what these are ads for... Posted by Picasa

We ate lunch twice at "La Fenetre de Soliel". It was a great relaxing atmosphere for Dina, and the staff was super friendly. The first day, I noticed that the staff was cooking themselves a home-style meal that was not on the menu. I asked to try it, and they prepared me a whole meal of local food - tamarind chicken, braised spinach, ginger and rice, followed by soup. It was great, and they didn't even charge me for it! We went back the next day and had some very good "Vietnamese Sandwiches" - a good baguette with some lunch meat, shredded carrots, cilantro, mayo, pat , cucumber, and of course some fish sauce. Light and delicious. Posted by Picasa

A wedding party on motorbikes... getting away as I fumbled with the lens cap. Posted by Picasa

Yeah, if you've seen one old Buddhist temple then you've seen them all.  Posted by Picasa

It's motorcycle mayhem when school lets out in Saigon. Posted by Picasa

The view from our hotel room in Ho Chi Minh city. Not much, but much more interesting than than the one in Hanoi, which looked "out" on an interior stairwell. At least in this one I could watch other people. Posted by Picasa

I got a kick out of the Franco-Soviet influences in Ho Chi Minh City. There is definitely more French architecture in Saigon (HCMC). Posted by Picasa

Our one photo from the recent Phuket trip. The trip was a bit of a flop. (Note to self, don't ever stay in Patong Beach.) One of the most infamous memories of the trip was this restaurant - the Jazztaurant. It's way up a hill - it felt like the car was going to roll over backward on the way up. Then you climb a bunch of steps and finally you arrive. It's a pretty hip looking place, until the sun sets, the lights get turned on, thousands of insects and crawlers of all shapes and sizes come out of the jungle, literally blackening the walls. Big winged ants, centipedes, moths, beetles, crickets, even larvae were tumbling off the countertops into black, writhing piles. They were everywhere, including a big winged ant in Zhanar's food. Yikes!  Posted by Picasa
